Review of Programme Grants for Applied Research now available
A review of Programme Grants for Applied Research is now available on the Programme Grants pages on the NIHR website.

Programme Grants for Applied Research: six competitions, 100 awards provides an overview of the programme and the application process and a review of the outcomes of the first six competitions. The review also features eight case studies from PGfAR-funded researchers who describe their programmes in detail to give a sense of the broad range of health research funded by PGfAR.

There is also a section in the review on Patient and Public Involvement, which features a case study and quotes from lay reviewers describing their experiences of participating in the programme to show the important role of PPI in the PGfAR assessment process.

Finally, the review features advice and guidance on applying to the programme from the Programme Director, Adrian Grant and a foreword from Professor Dame Sally C Davies, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Adviser to the Department of Health.

North Tees Respiratory nurses patient focus group

29 November 2011
North Tees Respiratory nurses patient focus group

North Tees and Hartlepool University Hospital conducts high quality clinical research. The Respiratory research nurses at UHNT are working on a number of studies looking at the best care and treatments for patients living with a variety of Respiratory conditions. This includes creating a relationship which ensures that the patients are confident that the care they receive is of high quality and that they are getting the best possible treatments available to them in the NHS.

Respiratory patients who are participating in research studies, or would like to be considered for research studies, or have an interest in Respiratory research, are invited to attend the quarterly focus group meetings. These meetings are friendly and informative and enable patients to ask any questions or voice any concerns they may have. It is a forum in which the research nurses can give patients an update on current studies and invite patients to participate in future studies. The meetings also give the opportunity to get instant feedback from patients on a variety of research subjects.

For more information regarding the Respiratory Research Focus Group please contact Nicky Bateman or June Battram on 01642 624580.
